My first Sew along

As I ventured back into sewing and lurking so many peoples blogs I stumbled across The Curvy Sewing Collective. What a wonderful group of ladies to covet! They have open my eyes up to so many different indy companies it just blows my mind. There is so much positivity going on regarding sewing and fitting your curves that do not fit the "standards" set by the fashion industry.

Everyone loves a great fit and to really get you inspired they hosted their first sew along featuring the classic wrap dress! So how can I not participate?! I know with a wrap dress it's would be a no brainer.

Fabric, check. Pattern, check, Thread, check. Jersey Point needle, check. I chose Vogue 8379 wrap dress. This really is a true wrap dress and I love it. I sewed View A in a ITY knit that I purchase from Fabric Mart and it has a really nice drape. It stitch it up in a Size 18 and it stitched up beautifully. I was able to get my pictures posted today.

Here it is.....

I love the print pattern of the this knit. It sews up like a dream too.

Yes, I love my new dress. I can't wait to make View B in a print with  fall colors and long sleeves, This was really fun to participate in. Thanks ladies!

    1. Hi Nita, I really love the way the dress turned out. It has been a while since I even made a dress! I didn't have any problems with the facing and sewed but I did like you and adjusted the strap. When I sewed the bodice and added the strap I wanted to make sure it lay flat when I crossed it over so I moved the strap up an inch from where the pattern "suggested" and then finished the rest of the dress. Even my son said the dress looked nice on me.

  2. Oops...that I had. Did you do the facing/interfacing route like the pattern called for or did you do Jenny's version and do a t-shirt edging instead? I faced mine.

    1. In regards to the t-shirt edging I might try that on the dress when I make the long sleeve version, will see. I know I am going to shorten it and make it a wrap top.

    1. Thanks Vanessa. It really does fit me well and I can't want to make more. I think what made it easy for me was the walking foot. It worked like a dream and with the over edge foot it stitched up beautifully.

I was going to get pattern V8784 but Joanne's didn't have any in the cabinet so I selected this one and boy I'm glad I did. The wrap dress is flattering on everyone.

  9. Hello Ms. Dotson,

Your dress makes me rethink a KNIT wrap-a-round. My protruding tummy and bum have always excluded me from even THINKING about making, let alone wearing one.

You done good, girl. Nice eye candy.

    Cheers,

  14. I Really wanted to get this pattern, but felt it wouldn't work with me being as busty as I am. After seeing it on you, I am totally rethinking that decision. This looks fabulous on you and your fabric choice is just beautiful. (I do love blue and white.)

    1. I this pattern is definitely one to have. I believe the pleats help with the shaping. It's so easy to sew. I think Vogue are on sale this week Sunday so I hope you snatch it up, you will not disappoint. I really like the blue and white too and I was looking for something with purple but this print spoke to me so I had to get it.
